Brief history Shell Professorial Chair

The Shell Professorial Chair in Mechanical Engineering at the Ahmadu Bello University was among the first to be established by the shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in 1992 together with that of university of Ibadan. In total seven (7) professorial chairs were endowed by the SHELL to support educational advancement and promote excellence in the selected Nigerian Universities between 1992 and 2007.
In general all the chairs are to conduct research on Shell Exploration and Production challenges, support SHELL knowledge enrichment initiatives and assist to evolve symbolic relationship between the academia and Exploration and Production (E&P) industry. The Ahmadu Bello University Shell Professorial Chair in Mechanical Engineering is mandated to carry out research and development in the areas of materials and corrosion in the oil and gas industries.

Location:- The Shell Chair has a stand alone (befitting) office complex with laboratories and library in the Mechanical Engineering workshop opposite Kashim Ibrahim Library.
