The University is always seeking to increase its investment in research, recognising that pertinent and applicable research is critical to the development needs of the country. Research funds come from a variety of sources.
ABU is exploring different ways to disseminate the variety of research taking place at the University. The University is currently piloting two research publications outlets.
Collaborations and Partnerships
As the oldest and premier public university in Nigeria, Ahmadu Bello University partners with the Government of Nigeria, mainly through the ministries, departments and autonomous/semi-autonomous agencies. ABU is the leading trainer of human resources for the Government of Nigeria as evidenced by the large number of her Alumni, serving in the Judiciary, Legislature and Cabinet arms of government. The university also partners with local and foreign universities some of which include Harvard University, USA, Central South University (CSU), China, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA.
Ahmadu Bello University has developed a focused research agenda that is multi-disciplinarity and draws on the University's vast expertise. Research proposals that focus on a specific problem that may cut across several disciplines are given priority in funding.
A variety of research projects are taking place across the University. NITDA, TETFund, NASENI and some other government agencies support the capacity building for research in Ahmadu Bello University. With these forms of support several research projects have been conducted in the Faculties of Social Sciences, Agriculture, Medicine and Technology.
